Two weeks to departure for San Diego

Two weeks until Peter (my husband and best friend) and I depart for San Diego. I've done a dry run on packing and have no problem meeting the weight limit -- now if only I can find that spot where I put the bike computer and map clip (you know - the spot where I would be sure to find them).

Not getting much training done this week. My father passed away Thursday night, so we are in San Antonio for the funeral. He will be greatly missed by many, especially by my brother and mother who stood beside him during the last year and especially during the last difficult days when Alzheimer's fought for his body and soul. The staff at the Oaks at the Army Residence Center were wonderful during his year there, as were the hospice nurses who made his last days more comfortable. He will be with me all during the ride.

So, next post will include an address to send donations to NARFE's Alzheimer's research fund. I unabashedly ask that anyone who reads this send something, no matter how small, to help find a way to stop Alzheimer's disease before it truly becomes a public health crisis with the aging of us baby boomers!

I'm sorry about your Dad, Nancy. It's a loss for you and your family. I'll mention it to everyone at work; be aware all our thoughts are with you.

Ride like the wind Nancy! Be comforted knowing dad is with you along the way.
Lots of aloha from the Candleglo clan.

You know we ALL will be with you on this trip - so everytime your knee hurts - or you crash - you can curse us all and we'll still love you to pieces. Just think, Dad is a saint! (unlike the rest of the family). Take care of those 50++++++ year old knees. Kak

If your bike was falling apart, and it's not even half your age, how about your knees? I'll make an agreement to ride my bike 1/10 of your mileage each day.

Nancy, what a wonderful tribute to your dad. I know he's very proud of you and just know he's riding on your handlebars so you can chat with him whenever you or need to (unless, of course, you're in the car, which means you'd be chatting over a Jim Beam and Pepsi!).
Love, Mikey

Wow! A blog! Who'd a thunk it? And since I'm a blog junkie, I'm going to subscribe so we can keep track of you. We'll miss you while you're gone (I think). Hope you have a great ride.

Aunt Nancy, Daddy said I could use his name to post on your blog. Lots and lots of kisses for you. I can't wait to see you when you're in Kerrville!
Lots of love,
Phyllis

I'm betting her rear end gives out long before the knees; it's like sitting on a balance beam legnthwise...on a bumpy road.

Ouch!

Not to worry Horseshoe#1, my sister has built-in padding back there to absorb all the bumps she might encounter. Said lovingly from her brother (soon to be ex-brother, I'm sure).
We love you Nancy and are so proud of you!
And don't forget, "they're all whores!" (Please don't be offended anyone, it's a private family joke that reminds us of our father's humor.)
